Neighbors. Dogs. NOT a good mix.

So, our neighbors have decided to get ANOTHER puppy. For those of you who don't know, Cooper was originally theirs until he kept getting out from under their fence during the day and into our yard (or out into the front yard on a VERY busy street), at which point they told us we could keep him if we wanted him. They don't believe in having dogs in their house, so they have tied this puppy up outside and he whines and cries ALL DAY LONG. It breaks my heart so badly, you have no idea! I had to literally turn up my iTunes loud enough so I couldn't hear his howls. Don't worry, we won't be rescuing him, but it still kills me! Grr. Some people should NOT be allowed to have pets!!

Couch woes

Well, we are on the lookout for a new couch! Ours is broken, badly. I think I did it in when I was pregnant, LOL...anyway, what we want is a micro-fiber reclining couch. And we want to be able to sit NEXT to each other and recline, not have that dumb spot in the middle that doesn't recline, but it needs to be long enough for Bryan to stretch out on. This is apparently the hardest thing in the world to find!!! We found ONE couch in all of Lexington that fits that requirement. Granted, we haven't looked at EVERY furniture store, but we have looked at every furniture store that is within our budget! The one we found is awesome, but Bryan researched online and found a lot of negative reviews of the store/customer service/quality of furniture so now we're scared to buy from them. Arg! If anyone has ideas, please let me know...

A busy day!

Well, I officially had my last "pregnancy" appointment with my doctor today! Yep, I'm 6 weeks out and all healed up and done with having to go to the doctor all the time, yippee!!! I love my doctor so much, but I ALWAYS have to wait forever it seems like to see her, so I won't miss hanging out in the waiting room for what seemed like hours on end. Speaking of waiting forever, Bryan and Caleb came to the doc with me, but the wait was taking so long Bryan decided to go to the library and take Caleb with him...fine with me, and plus he got a great book for me! It's called Baby Play and it's all kinds of ideas of songs/games/etc. you can play with your baby. I can't wait to really look through it and use some of the ideas! He also put a book called Twilight on hold for me...I've seen several blogs of people who have read this book and really enjoyed it, so I'm excited. It's a series, so it sounds like it is pretty addicting too! Caleb takes really long naps during the day and we don't have cable, so I wanted something I could read while he's sleeping.
Anyway, tonight Bryan's mom offered to watch Caleb so Bryan and I went to Regatta to eat (YUM)! Last night Caleb's Aunt Beth watched him...we're so blessed to have family around who don't mind babysitting when we need a little break. I miss him so much when he's not with us, though! I worry that he's going to have his first real smile or laugh or something when he's AWAY from me, and that would make me sad!
Tomorrow Bryan is going to help our friend Stephanie by putting up her alphabet and number lines in her classroom...he must miss doing it for me so much he has to do it for someone! I was kind of sad this week because LCA started on Thurs---my first time not teaching in 7 years...very strange. But I am enjoying being at home. I signed up for a few things at church that are going to meet in the mornings starting in Sept, so I am looking forward to that!

Professional Pics of Caleb

These are the pics from when we took Caleb to get 1 month pics done! Don't mind the weird glow on the black and white ones-they need to be rescanned--but you get the general idea! I thought they turned out really great!

A Fun Weekend!

This weekend Caleb got to meet his Grandpa and step-grandma from Texas! They came up on Sat. and brought Great-grandma with them as well as my step-sister Kelsey and her boyfriend. My brother and his wife came up also and we all hung out at our house for a little bit and then went to Johnny Carrinos for dinner. Caleb pretty much slept the ENTIRE time. But everyone loved getting to see him, hold him, etc. so that was fun! He got a couple of new, cute outfits as well. It's hard to believe that the next time he'll see my dad will be CHRISTMAS...he'll almost be 6 months old then! I'm sure he'll be so different by then! He is working on holding his head up, it's so cute. Anyway, today we went to church and then to our friend Alayna's first birthday party this afternoon!! It was Caleb's first birthday party and he lasted for about 2 hours of it before he was ready to go. It is so hard to believe that this time next year he'll be one of those kids toddling around! There were tons of kids there and I can't wait till he can really "play" with other kids, they were all so cute. Tomorrow starts a brand new week, and hopefully it will go as well as last week! I can't believe he will be turning 6 weeks old on Tuesday!

First day home alone with Caleb!

Well, yesterday was my first day as an official "stay at home mom"! Yep, Bryan went back to work yesterday. I was pretty nervous but it ended up being a good, uneventful day. We got up and walked up to the grocery (we are SO lucky to be within walking distance, let me tell you!) and video store, I bought a few things and returned some DVDs. We walked a little ways around our block (it was such a beautiful day) but Caleb started crying so we just went home...I think he was still hungry. Then we just stayed in the rest of the day because every time I'd get an idea to do something, he'd fall asleep on my chest! I actually love that, so I didn't mind one bit. If that's part of my job right now, then so be it! :) My plan was to have dinner ready by the time Bryan came home but that didn't actually happen--it was ALMOST ready though! So far this morning he's just slept, so I put him back in his crib and am awaiting his waking up anytime soon!

Some new pics/One month!

Some new pics of him in his bouncer and bathtime (which he HATED!)! Caleb is officially one month old now! He weighed in at 11 lbs 6 oz (still not back to his GINORMOUS birth weight of 11 lbs 13 oz but that's ok!) and is 24 inches long. He is going to be a tall boy! Next month he gets his shots-I'm NOT looking forward to that visit!

Ups and downs

I have been feeling a mix of emotions lately with school starting back. A couple of days ago I got really sad that I won't be setting up my classroom and getting ready for my students...I always enjoyed the "getting ready" part of teaching, with a clean slate and ideas of what the year ahead will look like. I liked seeing the teachers I haven't seen all summer again and hearing about what they did over their summer vacations. I liked seeing my new student's little tanned, fresh faces at "Back to school night" and meeting all of them. I knew what to expect. I knew what was expected of ME. There were routines I could settle back in to...grading papers, writing my newsletter, lesson plans, bulletin boards, etc. Not all of this is necessarily FUN, mind you, but I have been doing essentially the same thing for the past 7 years. No longer! I now have the occupation of MOMMY. But I think where I'm struggling is that, right now, I don't know what is expected of me in this profession. Caleb doesn't really DO a lot right now. Sleeps, eats, fills his diaper...:) Which makes me a little stir crazy, but I'm hesitant to take him out in public by myself because I am scared he'll have a meltdown and I'll look stupid and people will think I'm a bad mommy. I know how ridiculous that sounds when I say it out loud (type it out loud?) but it's how I feel. I love when people come by the house, offer to babysit, or when Bryan makes me get OUT of the house because it makes me feel a little more like myself. I hate asking for help, but I think I am going to have to get over that! I can't wait for the part of mommyhood where I can do things with Caleb--cook, play, go to the library, teach him things, etc. but I know I shouldn't wish this part of babyhood away either, because I'll miss it when it's gone. Sigh.
