Caleb updates
Wow, it has been a LONG time since I've posted!! Just haven't thought about it, I guess. I need to get back into the habit, so I thought I'd do a post on the cute (and not so cute) things Caleb is saying and doing right now, b/c I don't write these things down so I KNOW I'll forget!
-He has started speaking in these really proper sentences. Like, if you say, "Caleb, are you having fun?" He'll say, "Yes, I am, Mommy!" No "yeah" or "yes"...it's "yes I am" or "yes we are", etc. Too cute.
-He will correct us if we try to say words like he used to say them. For example, he used to say "strawbees" for "strawberries". Now if you call them "strawbees" he very quickly will correct us and say, "No, mommy, strawBERRIES." He also used to say "neeng" for "green" and "Pooker" for "Cooper" and now says them the correct way. Bittersweet.
-He is in a SERIOUS all mommy/all the time/only mommy stage. If Bryan asks if he can read him books, give him his bath, etc., Caleb very angrily will respond (85% of the time) with "NO, MOMMY can!" The other day Bryan was leaving for work and went to kiss me goodbye while I was holding Caleb. Caleb pushed Bryan's face away, said, "Mommy no WANT you to kiss her!", wiped off the kiss, and proceeded to kiss me himself. I think Freud might have something to say about this, haha. ;) I keep reminding Bryan that I'm sure it's just a stage.
-He loooooves to sing the ABC song, Row Row Row Your Boat and the Rainbow Song (from Signing Time). He loves to have me sing him to sleep still, with "You Are My Sunshine", "Jesus Loves Me" and "Jesus Loves the Little Children" being the 3 "must-haves".
-He has stopped napping altogether. Argh. But he will go RIGHT to sleep at 7 and sleep until 7 the next morning, so that's good. We try to have some kind of down time in the afternoon, still...but sleep? Nope. And I thought the transition from 2 naps to 1 was hard. Ha!
-He knows all his letters and a lot of his numbers...he really seems so smart to me (I know, I know, I'm his mommy, all mommies think that!). I've been teaching him to count 1-10 in Spanish, too. The teacher in me is ready to teach him to read! ;) Who needs preschool? Heehee.
-We have him signed up for preschool in the fall. It's only 2 days a week in the morning. I am so excited for him. I think he'll love it, make lots of little friends, and have a blast learning through play.
-We are LOVING our semester at The Little Gym. It's such a neat little community, he has mastered so many skills as the months have passed, and has an absolute blast every single week. Ms. Julie is right up there next to Mommy I think. :)
-The emotional highs and lows of an almost 3 year old are, at times, such a struggle for me to handle with grace and patience...and I don't always succeed. But I am asking God to give me strength when I want to rip my hair out and close my bedroom door and cry (which is rare). Continuing to learn about my Abba Father's infinite patience for me, even when I drive Him crazy, I'm sure.
-When he sees my mom, the first thing he asks is, "What'd ya bring me, Gigi?" (always a piece of candy or 2)
-He HATES HATES HATES any kind of bad guy or tension in a TV show or book...he'll make me change it if he can tell there is going to be a bad guy. So, no Disney movies for us for awhile...Kipper the Dog, Word World, Curious George and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse are his current fav TV shows.
-Hates green veggies still. Thank goodness for vitamins. Eats pretty good other than that, although he'd rather have a hot dog, peanut butter and nutella, or AbC 123s than just about anything. Hope his future wife is cool with those being the dinner options at their wedding.
-Oh! Big one! He's potty trained!! It seriously took about a week. Tried back when he first turned 2, didn't work out very well, and this time was a breeze! #2 took a bit longer than #1, but he has finally figured it out, and even prefers to do it all by himself (like most things these days). He also trained himself at night! I was putting pull-ups on him at night, but he started waking me up to take him to the bathroom, or he'd wake up completely dry and pee a river when he woke up. Awesome!
-Cute thing he says when he has to pee is that he's "melting". LOL! I think he means that he's "leaking", but it's still so funny. And he says it like the Wicked Witch of the West..."I'm MELTING Mommy!"
-He LOVES to help me clean. I am putting this down in writing to show him when he's a teenager. He would rather follow me around the house with a rag and some Pledge and help dust (or insert any household chore I do here) than play with any toy.
-He is LOVING the sandbox so far this spring. He wasn't all that into it last summer, but so far, it has entertained him tremendously! He has such a little imagination, I love it.
-I bought him his first real, name brand (New Balance) tennis shoes that I'm hoping will last him this spring and summer at LEAST...and hopefully will look good enough to be school shoes in the fall, although I'm not sure how that will go! Took him to the shoe store with the talking tree, they measured his foot and everything. He loved it. And he looks SOOOOO big in them. He is also sporting his froggy boots quite often again this spring. :)
-He loves to dance around the living room and shake his little booty to fun music. Today we danced together to some Jack Johnson and it was so much fun. I love the little boy he is becoming.
-He is very sensitive, and doesn't want to upset anyone (except when he's being a stinkbug with Bryan or I of course! That's a different story!) and is quick to say he's sorry and give hugs if he does something naughty.
Ok, that's all I can think of right now!! We are so excited spring is here and we can get out of this house more often, with less preparation beforehand (coats, mittens, hats, etc). I can't believe he will be 3 in July...where has time gone??
